Headed out on a Tuesday night, whiskey on the side.
To rock it out with a friend and take the
Cruisin’, groovin’ to J.J. and feelin’ fine!
I’m tyin’ the noose around my neck this time!
Well, we rocked it out ‘til the eleven hour, the night was creepin’ in.
So I knocked off the whiskey, the crown, and the rest of that bottle of gin, yeah…
Passed out on the couch but only for a while
Sometime in the night, I got up to drive, the shortest mile.
I was headed home that night
But I lost my vision you see
Passed out at the wheel
And slammed into the Whiskey Tree!
I slammed into that Whiskey Tree!
Woke up in a hospital on the other side of town,
They said, “You’ll be okay, man, but you nearly went down!”
It was dark and painful and I did not want to hold on
But then I saw you, mom, and you kept me going.
You kept me going…
…Yeah…
Well, it took some time to heal, but soon I was nearly new
With a fresh shot at life to do what I’m here to do
So, I threw away the bottle of whiskey and picked up my guitar
And now I’m singing my songs…
…for you right here, right now, yeah!!
Thank you, Lord!!
I’m seeing the light of reality
In my mind and dreams, I believe,
The faith that used to escape me…
